Prof. Ganefri has a wealth of experience as an educator and has been a dedicated lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Universitas Negeri Padang since 1992. Additionally, he serves as a lecturer in the Post Graduate Program of the Faculty of Engineering at UNP. He has also held various administrative roles within the university, including serving as the Secretary of the Faculty of Engineering from 1999 to 2004 and as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering from 2007 to 2011.

Throughout his career, Prof. Ganefri has contributed to the field of education beyond his university. He worked as an Education Sector Consultant for USAID in 2006 and served as the Project Manager for the Reconstruction and Upgrading of UNP from 2012 to 2014. He has also been involved in the coordination and management of higher education institutions as the Private Colleges Coordinator X for West Sumatera, Riau, Jambi, and Riau Island Province under the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education from 2014 to 2016.

In recognition of his leadership and expertise, Prof. Ganefri has held several significant positions in various organizations. He has been the Rector of Universitas Negeri Padang since 2016 and has made substantial contributions to the development and growth of the institution. He is also the Chairman of the Indonesia State Universities Council (MRPTNI) and the ICMI Higher Education Council (MPT) ICMI. Additionally, he holds leadership roles in organizations such as the Regional Nahdlatul Ulama West Sumatera and the board of trustees for the Independent Accreditation Institution (LAM) Kependidikan. He is also actively involved in the Indonesia Association of State Higher Education Institutions (ALPTKNI).
